Photogenic attractions: Kanoni and Pondikonissi
Corfu is best known for islands that don't actually belong to it: the tiny island of Pontikonissi, which means "island of the mouse", is just big enough to contain the Pantocrator monastery. Next door, the famous islet of Vlacherna, with its 17th-century monastery in honor of the Virgin Mary, is linked to the main island by a narrow causeway. Mass is celebrated here on Easter Monday.
Miraculous nature: the Sidari and Canal D' Amour beaches
Corfu is famous for its beaches, and if you swim in the Canal d'Amour, you're sure to find your soul mate, according to local legend. This natural passage of smooth rock forms a kind of tunnel. In Sidari, you'll find two other spectacular sandy beaches with sandstone formations.
Beaches: cosmopolitan or quiet, but all impressive
Glyfada, Dassia, Ermonès, Paleokastritsa, Sidari, Kavos (famous for its noisy festivals), Kontokali, Benitses, Halikounas... The list of Corfu's best beaches is endless. There are picturesque, secluded beaches as well as large, busy ones with beach clubs and bars, tavernas, stores and water sports. Many beaches also have their own luxury hotels.
